The Amazing Race Audition

 Back on June 22, my brother Ken and I traveled to Las Vegas to audition for the reality TV show "The Amazing Race."  We have talked about it for years, like most people.   We finally made to Vegas at 8:30 am.  Auditions started 10:00 am.  There was a huge line already when we arrived.

 It took us nearly 2 hours of standing in line to get to the point of entering into the building.  It was already over 100 degrees.  We got inside and had another hour and half of lines still ahead. 

 We were the 106 team to audition that day.   I bet there were at least 3 times that many teams overall.

 We finally made it to the camera.  We were told that we had 60 seconds to sell ourselves.  During the previous 3 hours of waiting in line, we came up with a strategy.  We weren't perfect, but we gave it our best.  We had the room laughing a couple of times and I almost made the camera man fall to the floor when I was talking about my cancer and said that not too many people can say they gave their left nut to be on the show (Julie's idea). 

Now we sit and wait to see if we get a call back.  It is highly unlikely, but at least we can actually say that we auditioned!!!

Back in Business.....

Well after a nearly 3 year break from this blog, I thought I would start up again.  Hopefully I keep up with all our Thornock adventures, especially for our families and friends that are afar.  Here goes nothing...

BYU vs. Colorado St Football Game

Saturday I took a trip up to Provo with Kortney Ware to watch the BYU football game. We arrived early to do a little tailgating. It was a beautiful day and the food was good.

We had pretty good seats and BYU ended up winning 42-23.

Before and after the game, I met up with my Dad, Uncle Del, Cousins Jade and Tara, Uncle George and Aunt Kaylene.

The First Day of School 2009-2010

Another year of school is here.

Below, Brooke is now in 4th Grade and has Mr. Nilson.

Brin is now in 3rd Grade and has Mr. Winn.

Carson is now in 1st Grade. His teacher is Mrs. Breinholt.

Cannon is in another year of PreSchool. He goes to two different ones. His teachers are Karen Oscarson for one and Mrs. Batty for the other.

Chloe can't wait to go to PreSchool next year, but for now, she is studying to become a Princess.

Our Summer in a Snapshot

Preparing for our 1400 mile trip to San Antonio, Texas. Stop in Albuquerque for a visit to the Rattlesnake Museum.

We took a train ride. Cannon's best day ever!

A trip to Corpus Christi, TX for a day of fun in the sun.

Maybe it wasn't so fun.

Back home, we enjoyed a great 4th of July together.

Followed by participating in our local 24th of July celebration in Monroe.

Brin and Brooke participated in the "Broadway in Monroe." They sang and danced for 4 straight nights. They did terrific.

For Julie's birthday, I took her to San Diego, CA to eat at the Hard Rock Cafe.....

...and go to the play "WICKED." It was so good. We both loved it.

Grandpa and Grandma Thornock came to visit. We went on a little picnic and hike.

We also took a trip up to the Dinosaur Museum at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi, UT.

We went with our friends the Thompsons to Lagoon for a great time.

That is a quick look at our absolutely fun summer. Can't wait till next summer!

Julie's Pez Collection Continues to Grow

For me, September means Football and Baseball Pennant Races. For Julie, September means the Scrapbook Expo! This year she took Brooke up for the two day spending spree. I believe they had a great time. Brooke is showing how many thousands of dollars she and her mom spent. They even got a photo with the Good Things Utah girls!

Julie and Brooke brought home many new toys and stickers and tape and photo stuff and etc. and etc. They actually brought home some pages this year to show me that they actually do scrapbooking there.

Brin's 3rd Grade Gooseberry Campout

Brin got to on the annual 3rd Grade Gooseberry Campout this past week, and because she is a girl, Julie got to go also. As always, the weather was cold, wet, haily, and cold(did I already say that). They both survived, although Annie Bangs came at night and grabbed Brin. Hey, it is Smokey the Bear and his handy helper Charcoal the Elephant(????) Not quite sure what is up with an elephant in a Utah National Forest. I guess she has the trunk to put out wildfires. This is Brin's group up at the camp. They went to various classes and demonstrations during the two days.

Brin is waiting for Annie Bangs to arrive. As the legend states, Annie was a young infant many years ago. She lived with her family in a cabin near the Gooseberry Campground. One day, a horrible storm hit the cabin and her parents where unable to get into town for supplies. Their water was running out too. The dad decided to try to make a trip into town to get some supply. He left one morningand never came back. The mother decided to go looking for him or to find food. She wrapped the baby in a shawl and left her in a cradle. The mother never came back either. The cries of the baby brought wolves to the cabin where they were able to get in. They didn't kill her but took her with them and raised her as a wolf pup. She haunts the Gooseberry area ever since.

At least Julie gets a break from this for several years, as the boys will be next. Which means my turn!

Takes After His Dad

Cannon finally did it. He started riding with no training wheels two days ago. He can't wait to ride in the mountains with his dad and brother when he grows up. Congrats Cannon! He is our fastest to ride without training wheels.

The other night Cannon was blessing the food. He started good; he thanked Heavenly Father for the food and the day he had. Then he asked Him to bless the food. Then he paused. I then heard him whisper, "Dad." I slowly opened one eye, and he quietly asked, "What is the name of that guy again?" I did everything I could to not start laughing, I calmly whispered it to him that the guy was Jesus Christ, and he finished the prayer. The above picture was taken Cannon's first day of pre-school this year. He was so excited to see his big yellow school bus coming down the street.
